About

I’m a Los Angeles-based DGA theatrical director, screenwriter, producer, and author. I began as a dancer and actor, interested in the distance between what someone feels and what an audience understands from a body, an image, or a silence.

That curiosity took me behind the camera and into film history, criticism, experimental cinema, photography, and comedy. I earned an MFA in Film & Video Production at the University of Iowa, then spent several years teaching filmmaking while continuing to write, direct, and produce.

I’m a former Assistant Professor of Cinema & Television Arts at Elon University and previously taught at the University of Iowa. Teaching made me better at listening, giving useful notes, and explaining an idea without flattening it. Producing taught me to understand what a creative choice asks of the people carrying it out.

My first feature as a DGA theatrical director, Atomic Fondue, is in post-production. My work also includes the six-episode crime comedy Hot Minute, The Tenth Circle, experimental films, and the book Behind the Laughter.

I keep returning to power, intimacy, class, technology, memory, and the roles people perform to feel stable. Comedy is often where those things become easiest to see.

I like clear expectations, useful notes, prepared departments, and room for people to surprise me.

My background also includes Fulbright experience in Utrecht, where I studied Dutch and taught English.

That experience is part of the international perspective I bring to filmmaking and collaboration, alongside my education in photography, art history, and film.
