Teaching + Speaking
I teach filmmaking as both a craft and a system: what happens in the room, on the set, in the edit, and in the industry around the work. Los Angeles-based and available for in-person engagements worldwide or remotely.
Bio
Teaching
I spent several years teaching while continuing to make and produce films. That experience made me more precise about communication, more collaborative in how I give notes, and more interested in the practical systems that let people do good work together.
I served as an Assistant Professor of Cinema & Television Arts at Elon University, previously taught in Cinematic Arts at the University of Iowa, and have taught audio/video production at Laurus College. My courses have moved between production, editing, sound, comedy, entertainment business, narrative aesthetics, global film culture, adaptation, television, web series, and festival studies.
I also hold a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate from Babel Language Institute in Utrecht, completed in 2015.
International experience
Language study + teaching
My background also includes Fulbright experience in Utrecht, where I studied Dutch and taught English.
I received the Critical Language Scholarship Award (Dutch) in 2015. Working across languages and cultural contexts remains part of how I approach teaching, research, and collaboration.
